As-Built Applications Using Photogrammetry and Laser Scanning

CSA, INC. As-Built Division provides cost-effective, responsive, spatially accurate solutions to as-built data capture, documentation and industrial measurement problems.
DEDICATION
CSA's team of experienced engineering, photogrammetric, surveying, photographic and 3D modeling professionals are dedicated to understanding the Client's project requirements and performing the work to complete satisfaction.
In today's environment of fast-track projects, with the increasing pressure to compress schedules and lower costs, CSA realizes that the value of as-built information is time sensitive.

EXPERIENCE
CSA As-Built Division has successfully completed numerous as-building projects for engineering and owner/operator clients worldwide. These projects have been in a broad range of industries including petroleum refining, petrochemical processing, pulp and paper, offshore oil production, and nuclear power generation.
In addition, for over 21 years CSA, Inc. has been providing comprehensive, fully - integrated plant configuration database / 3D modeling services and software to the process and power industries.

THE RIGHT TOOLS
The Client needs accurate, complete and reliable data as early in the project as possible. Equally important, the scope for the as-building must satisfy the engineering and operational needs of the project - and not just the capability of a particular measurement technology.
Experience has shown that a single measurement technology or technique often cannot satisfy the varied, complex configurations typical of most facilities. CSA As-Built Division's approach is unique- using those technologies, techniques and tools that best satisfy the Client's as-building needs. The specified as-built information is captured and compiled from a variety of sources including:
•close range photogrammetry •dimensional surveying •drawings•hand measurements.
CSA is also actively investigating, evaluating and testing new technologies such as
•on-line hybrid survey•photogrammetry•measurement•modeling and laser scanning/digitizing systems.
In addition to using a mix of technologies, techniques and tools, providing the Client with quality, useful data requires careful attention to detail throughout the work process. CSA As-Built Division uses:
Recognized precision surveying techniques, including best-fit least squares adjustment of the survey
network. This allows calculation of both the accuracy of each control point and the accuracy of the supplied plant coordinate system definition.
Calibrated metric camera systems and an ultra-high resolution film scanner. This allows propercompensation for the distortions in the measurement photography, and produces images in which important details are easily identifiable.
True digital stereo modeling with real-time graphics overlay. This allows simultaneous viewing of both the actual plant components and the corresponding modeling in 3D.

VERSATILITY
As-built information can be delivered to the Client in one or more of the following formats:
•Intergraph format visual databases (VDB). A visual database consists of the scanned measurement photographs of an area and the associated photogrammetric data. Project personnel can access the visual database to accurately measure 3D plant coordinates and distances directly from the photographs using Intergraph's PhotoBrowser NT software.
•3D model(s) in a format compatible with the Client's plant design tools (e.g. Intergraph PDS, CSA Plant/CMS, CADCentre PDMS, MicroStation and AutoCAD). By working in conjunction with CSA's plant configuration database services group, full engineering intelligence can be added to the 3D as-built model.
•Written project summary report which documents the amount of time expended on the project, the survey results and accuracies (including the quality of the supplied plant coordinate system definition), the photogrammetry process / results / accuracies, and the list of deliverables.
